here we go again (gta style):
week of 3rd november (week 12 of school) - oh man this is when shit REALLY hits the ceiling...
not gonna lie, i was already feeling very sian going for cca in the couple of weeks prior to this (whenever i did go bcuz obv 2nd nov i was at sentosa) bcuz i was aware that i had to balance my projects with cca (and the pieces for the smu25 recording were mostly pieces that had been played before), and also my own personal me-time doing things that i liked to do. but between trying to commit to cca and trying to balance my other stuff, i realised that i was slowly losing the feels of playing in cca. in the sense that i had zero motivation to be there and i was really there for the sake of it. so much so that my performance during practice was getting worse even though i was going for practices. and this is beyond my semi-common "over-practicing and becoming worse", but rather more of i just literally did not want to be there. every fiber of my being and soul just yearned to be somewhere else instead of being there in cca.
for the sustainable ops project, i then realised that there was like so many holes in the report that had to be fixed. my partner was busy doing a handful of other projects (idek how she survived) and i was just doing the payoff analysis and i couldnt really help her internal life cycle assessment that she had to do - essentially, we ended up doing two separate parts that were equally heavy. all this while trying to ensure that mr npc in the group had the right amount of stuff inside the report and there existed a 'human touch'. he did eventually change things by himself, but we were in generally still abit shocked by the standard and just suggested further revisions. he then did another part which was...also of similar standard and frankly i could tell a couple of people just wanted to off themselves at this point
there was also the logistics presentation and honestly, after the dozens of hours looking at the excel sheet and trying to find correlations between data points and trying to add insights, i was so ready and done to get this part over. i had to fking rap through 10 minutes of data and insights that we had and ig the good thing was that prof had generally positive comments? so yea but we already knew that she was kinda blows hot and cold on weather something is good or bad (so we already didn't expect much even if the comments were somewhat decent).
also this was the week where i asked that crush that i had in one of my classes whether she wanted to study in school - she said no :-( okay i swear she is a nice person (and im p sure shes single) but ig she just wasnt interested in me? sadge maybe its cuz i was too wild for her (she really epitomises chill guy meme). but yea anyways we still talked when we see each other so i guess all's good? hopefully at least...
and then for shipping business, i swear i had two groupmates that were so done with the exchange student in out group cuz he was asking stupid questions about the individual assignment (and he did seem to slack off abit in the group project but i was okay with that cuz its a valid reason of needing to wait for the rest of us to finish before he can finalise his part). but yea quite funny. and as usual its another dry lesson where nothing went in and whatever slivers did just came out almost instantly
and how could i forget dua lipa concert? honestly her dancing really improved (from what i saw online from her previous world tour) and i think she really created that party atmosphere in the indoor stadium... probably guilty of shouting the lyrics abit too loud sometimes (oops) like bruno mars and taylor swift but the transitions for some of the songs and the crowd engagement were so gooood. and something about the lighting and the backdrops on the stage really gave that techno-futuristic vibe. also there was a disco ball at one point HAHAH i cant remember for which song but damn it really added to that party vibe on a tuesday night.
week of 10th november (week 13 of school) - let me just start off by saying monday couldnt have been a more stressful day doing sust ops project.
we met at 2 in connex to do the project. seems fine. but i did also have two other calls to attend during that time (so i just disappeared for about 45 mins combined) and no one said much. then i realised some things:
1) mr npc was playing airplane simulator instead of doing work
2) mr npc did not know how to cite (and did not know what a citation machine was)
3) the leader of our group was triple tasking listening to youtube, gaming, and doing her part LOL wtf the efficiency still was damn high also
4) the exchange student was watching a sitcom for an hour in the middle HAHAHAH
in the middle of all this shenanigans we were trying to tidy up our report (spoiler: we did eventually finish it at 6.58pm and the submission deadline was 7pm LOL), and mr npc literally had the audacity to say (after we found out he didn't know how to cite as a year 3 business student) "oh if u have anyth else yall need help with u can just let me know i will go do my other projects". other projects being airplane simulator....wow. he also literally had the least work to do istg man and he can't even do it right. then when he and our project leader had to go for their 7pm class he was always asking 'what time r u going' at like 6-645pm and we were all clearly trying to tidy up our project...like bruh this is what i meant by NO EQ. even the project leader (normally a chill gal) got like obviously riled up by this...and why wouldnt she? then after they left the remaining three of us (exchange student also left for lesson) all rolled our eyes and just started ranting and dragged the soundfoundry people HAHAH hilarious.
the rest of the week was just trying to get through presentations. my group got pretty heavily bombarded by the ship biz presentation lmao...but its what it is
after that fri morning presentation, i went back home and prepared to come back school for: STARRY FRICKIN NIGHT BABY. i really had to get the liquor into my system this time this was a stressful sem looking at all the excel sheets and projects...aint it man. i already made the conscious choice to not go for co prac that evening (lmao and the attendance was the best then). and i was also supposed to go softball bar drinking session but end up only 7 ppl go (and i had too much mingling to do at fort canning lol the company was too good). sorry softball!! but have it at fort canning next time PLEASE for the love of it then maybe more people will come :-)
in summary of what happened on friday night (saving the best for last and therefore NOT in chronological order):
1) i got hugged and kissed on a cheek by a straight guy who i knew and, who after doing so, went to guzzle a carton of milk. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
2) met some really great new friends that evening (that eventually stretched to sunrise)
3) had to take care of a certain someone who merlion-ed and also saw a guy lying on the grass just facing the stars
4) talked to some of the touch-rugby girls (i personally know 2 and ik a third acquaintance) quite funny honestly just constantly lol-ing about why one of them left softball and has only come once since summer break started (i think?) said girl ALSO spilled my drink in the sports hall and she still insists on treating me back (i said no but im not gna turn down a free drink) and i havent seen her at practice since so...lmao? funny person HAHAHA not in a bad way in a really meme-able way
5) drank one bottle of soju and at least 1.5 shots of hard liquor with mixer and 3/4 of a cup of practically straight vodka (we didnt want to open a new bottle of coke/sprite and we were left with very little otherwise)
6) soundfoundry concert was great with good company
7) had a great talk with a group of 4 ppl (two i knew before, two i didnt know before) and just talking about their orientation tea (since they were all scis) and also exchange plans and how the semester has been going. also ended up going breakfast with them
8) HERE COMES THE BEST PART. i asked the incoming president of co how practice went and she went "BRO." and u know when someone texts u like that means some real shit hit the ceiling, the fan, and then broke thru the roof. so i found out that, because of attendance issues and cost control issues, they postponed the recording of smu 25 indefinitely. and i found out this at exactly 12.23am and i literally yelled 'FUCK' at fort canning (okay maybe i didn't yell but it was audible enough and it was crescendo-ing). and i went on a rant after that that i will summarise here (also by the frickin way i took an extra full shot in my mouth of liquor because of this):
a) it is so unprofessional of them to tell us right before finals with no heads-up
b) there have been people (like me, like faith) who have been going for practice and stressing about our projects because we are taking at least 6 hours out of our revision time for this, and IT IS FUCKING CANCELLED? i should cancel osl for this honestly...and they say they are unhappy with smu confess ya MAYBE LOOK IN THE MIRROR TO SEE WHY?
c) they should be fucking grateful that so many upperclass students and alumni/guests are already coming down amidst their hectic schedule to practice. and to think that this is the second time they changed recording details - generational fuck up in terms of planning. and also maybe they should consider that announcing on a weekday means that alumni have to take leave from work, and then announcing it when the sem starts when exco hasn't even confirmed the freshies attending means that it is difficult to get their commitment, and then rescheduling it in LATE SEPTEMBER means there will be no change in overall numbers except for more guest and alumni because some members have already planned their holidays around the ORIGINAL schedule.
and then they should ALSO consider that i) students have projects from week 11-13 and practice started in week 6 (so midterms, midterms, recess, midterms/nothing, nothing, projects, projects, projects) (okay and admittedly i only started attending in week 9 because i was busy with midterm prep in week 6, and i was lazy in week 7 and the friday of recess but i have practically attended every practice from week 9 onwards with the exception of the cs2 world finals wkend) ii) guests and alumni have external work/school schedules to fit and its a fricking friday night. like what do u expect them to do? and also some ppl have family stuff on saturday...sohai's i swear. literally more than half the time u can have a valid reason for not attending practices (midterm/recess/last day of sem/projects) iii) maybe dont schedule the recording a week after finals end? ffs
and also, who the fuck expects u to go cca on week 13? crazy. u shld be grateful if people come down in week 13. stupido's.
this really lit a fire under my ass and i said yea okay fuck this im not gonna do the recording anymore unless they can guarantee me it is going to be before the last week of august'25 by april so i can book my tickets for exchange. they really dont give two shits about student welfare. fuck you osl. fuck you.
- steve, still angry about this even though it has been over a month
