first quarter of internship

2.5 weeks of internship done! my impression overall is that generally people here get the work done, r a lot more unhinged, and also i learn more than what i did previously at goodyear (although the office a bit small sia shag).

definitely there have been many funny moments. in no particular order: they drink milk tea everyday; there is this guy who thinks that u can control what lung takes the impact of the vape/cigarette (i fucking died at this); dirty talk everyday without fail; constant teasing about what other ppl do; shit-talking the previous intern because he was really unaware of surroundings and awkward and gave the bare minimum in the job; gossip about how useless the frontline offices in each country we have a connection with are kinda useless (only SOME offices most r okay); my ceo picks up trash that can be recycled from our individual bins every morning; one coworker came in absolutely hungover on friday morning an hour late for work and his breath still smelled of alcohol and he had reached home at around 5am (after four grab cancellations); one former coworker who told me i should side part my hair instead of centre part (though the department is split on this judgment); the other intern in my dept not knowing how to order coffee or tea in local lingo; one customer whose cargo pickup was delayed and he was charged extra fees for holding the cargo in port (demurrage) and him saying it was our fault (when it wasn't) and he had extreme mental and emotional and financial strain/loss/burden/suffering; me getting looped in on so many messages via email and seeing that the ceo has written at least a handful of strongly worded emails to different entities because of (im paraphrasing) 'anti-business' practices that screw our customer relations over...p much sums up everything

in my time here i have had like 2 welcome/farewell meals because one person came another left and technically i think there should have been one more (just yesterday) but i was out having lunch for the first time while i was working with a friend and skipped the welcome lunch for someone in the fin dept LOL gg but i think working at a small freight-forwarder based company like this makes it even clearer that for business (and especially maritime) u NEED connections. literally all of the ft staff in the trade team have connections with at least two separate (groups of) people at other companies in maritime that serve a different function (major container liner, other freight forwarders that directly deal with customers, bunkerers) for not just connections but also market insights/updates/pulses that give a better indication of whether what we r doing is accurate. the department is kinda unhinged ngl - as referenced above they make A LOT of dirty jokes but i think everyone is kinda okay with it (like not uncomfortable is either meh or just play along) so much so that 'why ah everytime we talk we can never have a normal convo?' which is true LOL they always pivot to siamdiu/'holiday schedule' in vietnam/msia/thailand being too demure/other stuff that im not gonna mention here

but yea i feel like im learning a lot also because like im not just adhoc and other mundane stuff like pulling data copying them and having to read through invoices...im also quoting and like doing reports and stuff so its a bit more informational and the scope is wider as well so slay! hope yall r doing greatttt and see yall in the first week of july!

- steve, trying smth new w the diary (he is abit lazy to do daily uploads now and may go to weekly uploads in future)

p.s. why i say it is going to be first week of july is because of the quarter breakdown and also im gna be swamped with monthly closing statements to make end of next week and the week after so yeah
